To start off, this is a great concept and made a lot of heads turn when it was first introduced. The people buying it clearly knew what they were going for.
The companies ambition is impressive to say the least.
Some pointers for any future iteration to make it more accessible to the masses in general -
1) 3.5mm Headphone Audio Jack
The smartphone market is no doubt extremely hard to break into, it is especially difficult for phones trying something new. You would therefore want to make your phone as accessible as possible.
An audio jack would let you target a lot of users, the flagship market might have all but given up the 3.5mm jack but the rest of the smartphone market still has it. You'd greatly expand upon your target audience if you add this.
2) Pricing
This is something you need to work out, I think pretty much everyone knows that Carbon Fiber isn't going to priced like cotton candy. But the thing is, your average smartphone user can only admire such phones from afar but can't do anything else.
Obviously you can't cheapen out on the hardware here, no to make a smartphone while retaining\enhancing the Carbon Fiber build quality while keeping the price down is only possible by cutting costs on the interior -
a. Camera Sensor - Sony Exmor IMX355
You might think this is a bit dated but this is what they use on the Pixel line. Clearly with good optimization you can get a lot out of this sensor.
b. Chipset - Snapdragon 480 5G
I have no complaints about using the Mediatek silicon being used here. It isn't as powerful as your modern day midranger or flagship processor but if you want more firepower with a much more recognizable brand name I would suggest you consider Snapdragon 480 5G. It can compete with some midrange 7xx series Snapdragons.
Obviously the above components are just of the top off my head. But you get the idea.
3) IP Rating
Maybe I missed it, but getting an IP rating would be great.
4) Launch areas
I would recommend trying to launch in areas outside the EU. Obviously this is easier said than done, but you gotta do it eventually if you intend to spearhead a revolution in the smartphone industry which I feel like you guys can do. Some countries of the top off my head
a. India
The common misconception is that the market is unwinnable due to the dominance of the Chinese OEMs. This is incorrect, India has a massive population so even if you get a small percentage of marketshare you get a load of sales. The main thing the average Indian consumer looks out for is price\performance.
b. Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand
They don't get a lot of variety here apart from the Chinese OEMs, while the total population is lesser than India but the general lack of players can help you gain entry.
c. Japan
This is Sony's home turf but your average Japanese wouldn't prefer a Chinese OEM. You can bet some chips here.
d. US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand
The big boy markets, you'd want to enter here eventually
Finally, all the best with the future of the company.
Love from India <3
Coming from these phones:
iPhone 3GS, Wiko Highway pure 4G, Huawei P30 Lite, Google Pixel 3, I must say that the Carbon 1 Mark II smartphone is the first revolution in Smartphone technology for me since the iPhone 3GS. This is a real leap in technology. The reduction in weight is mind boggling.
First I have to say first contact to Carbon Mobile was not too good, after my order I had to wait for about 1 week, when I had sent them an E-Mail about my order. But then I got an answer right away and my phone was sent to me. Since it is a small company this is understandable and not too bad.
The design of the phone is superb, minor (personal) enhancements would include:
-Gap size between display and frame should be reduced further a tiny bit for a perfect fit
-camera lense totally housed by the frame (probably the frame would be bigger than so this is not too bad either)
-increased disstinction of the 3 buttons on the right side of the phone, surface of the On/Off button IS different, but maybe a little bit more
- the speaker on the top side not as an arrow but as a line (personal preference)
MAJOR positive aspects of the design:
-weight
-simplicity and carbon look
-perfect position of the fingerprint sensor, seriously the first phone I know of that has this perfect position not the awkward and stupid looking backside thing
-everything is geared towards functionality
-no bloatware (sad it has to be said)
Performance wise, I have absolutely no issues with this phone whatsoever, well I don't play games, maybe that is why, but for me on the phone this is not needed, it is a phone for men and women, not for boys and girls! All apps open and react quickly, I don't need computing power similar to my desktop PC on my phone!!!
Some additions:
-integration of GooglePay as shortcut in the On/Off button
-eSIM compatability
-DON'T make it bigger, PLEASE. Size is already at the upper limit, 6" is fine for me in this case because of the very thin frame, but don't make it bigger, seriously, phones will never be big enough for me to watch a movie on it and still fit in the pocket, so the size is absolutely fine. Don't need these 6,8" monstrosities of phones.
-intelligent charging
-DON'T make X versions, please keep the specialization, we don't need another smartphone with 24 options to choose and variants of performances and such... You have chosen a solid Chip with the mediatek P90, plenty of space with 256 GB. For the next model, please stick with 1 very solid choice for all the components aswell, this is so much better than 100 versions because the illusion of choice is apparently important.
An absolutely superb phone that feels like the fulfilled promise of the essential phone with a HUGE upgrade! Congratulations to the Carbon Mobile Team for this perfect phone! Looking forward to the new model and I wish the company all the best!
I like how I do not have to wait to get every notification when I get connected.What I do not like is that there is no gallery, where do I find the pictures I've taken?Another thing, I would like to get some cover/case so it won't brake and also so the screen can rest. I see the phone is usually on (screen on) when it is in my purse or bag, and that wastes battery life
I received this phone with some trepidation, having read one or two negative criticisms of it. I needn't have worried. It beats expectations. The weight and thinness of it are extraordinary, as is the superb casing finish. The screen is bright, sharp and everything I might have have hoped for. I come from iPhone XI and this is no come-down, in any regard. Plus once I'd removed as much Google as I could find (which crawls all over Android, I discover), and put my own plain wallpaper on the home page with a clean screen provided by Niagara launcher, the benefit of Android's customisability over iPhone is clear. I've found the wifi and gsm connections are good, again better than I might have believed from a comment I read. I have problems in my location but they haven't arisen with the phone. Criticisms? The bluetooth works better with my earbuds than iphone. The sound is first class. But I find though the speaker volume a bit low when playing through that. The thumbprint scanner on the right hands side proved a little fiddly to set up, but after a few fingerprint reads, I got a good improvement and have no further difficulty. Face recognition would be welcome, but not hugely missed. The USB C power connector on the bottom might have been sited on the side to allow the phone to sit easily on a stand. And inductive charging I miss, it's easy to get used to the convenience. It's good to home in on one standard connector, and get rid of johnny no-mates lightning. The case finish is smooth and I fear I might let it slip through my fingers, but I wouldn't want to ruin that elegant look with a bumper so will need to take care. All in all, this is superb piece of engineering, a design triumph that's got me sold on both the hardware and the Android OS. Next!
I am very satisfied with the carbon mobile
the only downside is that when you play you tube that the volume is very low and the volume is all open.
call vorlume is just normal
and for the rest I use the phone for which it is intended.
and I'm happy with that
Phone design awesome. Impressed by its thinness and lightness. impressive capacity. Bright screen. However, disappointed with the unresolved underlying problem. The phone came with defects: without mobile internet, weak microphone, interlocutors hear's me poorly. Photo quality is very average.
Carbon 1 Mark II Smartphone (EU)
Kamerafokus zu langsam
Unfortunately it ist very slow.
The Carbon is lighter than my kid's toy smartphone!
As a minimalist smartphone user, the Carbon not just meet my basic need but also exceed my expectation in terms of its performance given the thickness and the carbon fiber case. The HyRECM technology works perfectly.
The exterior design with the shinning logo definitely makes it stand out and eye-catching.
I would like to congratulate the Carbon Mobile team on hitting such a great milestone and I can appreciate all the engineering efforts go into this very compact design. This is a great example of putting the right technology in the right place. I look forward to seeing more products coming out from this team.
The device is incredibly light and thin.The feel of the Carbon is very pleasant to the touch and aesthetically gorgeous.About the software, Android stock in combination with the Carbon is fluid, responsive.I've been using it for a few months now and no noticeable slowdown, everything is as you'd expect from a smartphone.It's really a pleasure to use this Carbon on a daily basis even if this niche device doesn't have all the assets of the biggest brands today.
The bet is won!
I'm confident that the Carbon Mobile team will prepare a more mature version that will surpass the others on all points.Thank you Carbon Mobile Team, Firas to get out of the current stereotypes.
When you like a mobile with a particular design is the Carbon 1 MK II the right mobile for you!The carbon fiber surface looks phantastic. 8 GB RAM, 128 GB internal memory is more than enough.Android 10 is a must, and the size is good to take the mobile in your pockets.Due to the fact, that the weight is so low, you can't believe.All together: Perfect start of the German startup. Go on carbon mobile.
Over the last weeks, I have had ample opportunity to actively test my Carbon Mobile.
What convinced me completely about the Carbon 1 MK II?
Material and technology, design, weight and reliability - unbeatable and unique real carbon fibre look and feel;
Hardware and workmanship overall - solid performance;
software and updates - convincing;
Over 100 apps from various application categories tested - no complaints (only 3 apps were not compatible with Android 10, but this is not the fault of the device);
Test of different chargers/powerbanks and different USB cables - without any problems;
Test connections (BT, Android Auto) in different vehicles - ever stable;
Test of connections (BT) and quality of music transmission to several BT headphones, ear buds and phones - very good;
However, I think the most convincing factor for the Carbon 1 MK II project and its future viability is the dedicated Carbonizer team. Thank you very much for your work and good luck with the further development. I am already looking forward to what is still to come!
First to the coating, I have to say, mixed feelings. There are regions on the phone where I thought they would break off in an instant, but nope, even when u existentially drop it, there's nothing. On other regions, like in my case, left upper corner or right in front of the finger print, the broke of or shattered and I have no idea how that happened, especially with the finger print it's kinda annoying, since I almost slit my finger there, so room for optimisations...
With the temperature it's kind of understandable, since where should the heat vent off, carbon is not a good material to spread it, but it still gets darn hot on the backside when playing graphics intensive games or watching an episode of you're favourite TV Series, so yeah, again room for optimisation...
And last but not least, my biggest problem, the Screen is a bitt off, coming out of the carbon body right hand side... So, yeah, optimisations over optimisations
I don't want to only bash the phone though, it's good, veeeeery thin, veeeeeeery light, the screen is 9/10, the haptic is 10/10, the finishing feels like a 10/10 and the battery life is, at least for me, and I use the Phone extensively, enough, not more then enough, but enough.
So yeah good phone, maybe I got a Mondays Modell, is it worth 800€? If I want something unique, of course, if not, go get something cheaper
It is so light and yet so strong body.I really was impressed when opening the box and having the first feel, amazing.It's taking things to the next level and opening a new area how the body of a phone should be in the 21st century.Its very responsive an fast. Feels amazing in the hand.I big congratulation to the team, to take such an challenge to compete with the big players.Looking very much forward to the next generation Carbon mobile 2
I started using my Carbon Mobile 1 MK II a few months ago and it is just WOW!Friends and colleagues are always astonished by the slimness and lightness of the phone + the carbon fiber 3D effect and the lighted Carbon logo in the back make the design mind-blowing.Impressive boot screen, which mirrors the back!1 MK II gives also great performance, I work with the phone all day long (emails, phone/video calls, social medias) and I know I can rely on it.I love this smartphone and I am really looking forward to discovering what Carbon Mobile is going to do next!
Bought one for my son`s birthday late April. He loves creative stuffs. This phone is amazing for him. The carbon case is cubic structure by viewing from different angles. The logo LED is breathing. With the 100grams+ weight, holding on his hand and mating perfect! All of his friends are asking for a view and where to get it. Other than those, I like the well designed 'CD' shape box. It brings us to the year 2000. Cannot wait to get mine middle May!
I received the Carbon I Mark II Founder Edition early March and since then using it, everyone gets astonished not only for the elegant and clean design but for features like the led Carbon fonds in the back and specially for the slimness and lightness when they hold it. Amazing product and game changer in the industry.
Loving every second of my Carbon experience. It's a mind-blowing piece of innovation that gives a unique status to the holder. Specs are top notch, even with heavy use of digital and social channels, keeps going for a full day with no issue. Looking forward to seeing what will be next!
That's what everyone says when they pick it up....wow, I love it! It's so light and thin I can't believe it.
Phones are just too big, too clunky, it's time for a change.
Carbon is minimalist and all about the function. It's sleek and different. In a world of huge phones, with massive, ugly cameras, Carbon Mobile is a breath of fresh air. Composites, that's the future! Well done you guys...dare to be different!
The real carbon fibre look and feel very cool and special.Unique, exclusive device like no other.Talking point with everyone you meet.Good performance.I think it would be great company as Carbon Mobile and the great team to make the product happened came true to the world, you can do everything for electronic product.Awesome!
I would start with a comment to the picture that i have shared, yes I am using Carbon as my main business phone
It is reliable, to be honest, i didn't except that resilience in the performance especially that i am a very heavy user for my mobile phone as i spend around 6 to 8 hours on the phone every day. Emails, Video Calls, Social Media, and for sure phone calls.
Battery performance is phenomenal especially when i put the battery saver option on.
I can say that i do really liked the screen quality in a sunny day, this is something i was looking for in my earlier Iphone
On my 2nd photo you would see that i am Carbon Savi, it weight as carbon fiber, its feels as Carbon fiber and thin as you can see in the picture
I feel special carrying the Carbon mobile and i am impressed from the outcome
Well done Carbon
I read about Carbon Mobile in a magazine and wanted to own the first carbon phone. To me the lightness does stand out in a way that I don't want to hold my iPhone any longer. It just feels bulky and heavy.
The phone works well, camera is better after the update and it kind of feels nice to have a phone that not too many have yet. Hand it to anyone and everyone is impressed by the lightness - tried many times and never failed.
What I personally also care about is reducing plastics and as far as I understood this phone is much more sustainable than what is mostly offered in the market.
I didn’t know what to expect from a new player like this but I’m so happy I decided to buy. Super cool design, feels like a sportscar in your pocket.
Everyone wants to hold it and try it.
Nice one Carbon Mobile!
